Does that sound counterintuitive? Most people think that the more people they target, than the more money they will make. In the world of the internet this thinking will get you nowhere. The internet is all about niche markets, unless you are Wal-Mart or Amazon.
What is a niche market? A small, very specialized group of people to which you have decided to market your business. You are probably thinking, "Why would I want to target a small group?" Here are a few simple reasons:
Get The #1 Spot: Your placement on a Google search plays a great deal in your blogs exposure. If people are searching for a topic, the goal is to have your blog be the first one listed on the Google SERP (Search Engine Results Page). The first listing is the most clicked link. Large companies will have the monopoly on these spots under most broad topics, but if you tailor your blog to target a very small niche, you might be able to grab that number 1 spot. The large companies aren't going to spend time or money targeting the smaller niches within their big niche. This hole leaves a spot for you!
Still not convinced? Think about it. Would you prefer to target 13 million people, but your listing is on the 1125th page, giving you 0 clicks? Or would you rather target 500,000 people with your blog showing up on the 1st or 2nd page?
Laser Targeted Leads: The whole point of marketing your MLM with a blog is to get leads. If you are targeting broad audience, you will get leads with broad needs and wants. Instead, target a very specific group of people and you can almost guarantee that you know exactly what they want and how best to give/sell it to them. They will practically fall into your funnel.
Your Just Not That Good: No one can be great at everything. If you are trying write about too many topics, you most likely will leave much to be desired. Instead, pick your niche market and become an expert in this very small field. This is a much more manageable task. Let your readers learn as you learn.
If you are just learning how to market online, it can be tough to pick your niche. I always say, "Your niche picks you." Be prepared to re-invent your blog several times as you learn more about online marketing and find topics about which you are really passionate.
A great way to pick a niche market is to follow a training program that is organized and well paced for your learning. If you are trying to search for training online and piece all the information together, you can get overwhelmed, confused, spend tons of money and miss huge pieces of the puzzle.
